Staying Connected at CSU Hillel

The Covid19 crisis our CSU Hillel students in Fort Collins began to face six weeks ago had led to one of the most unprecedented times ever for our students. Knee deep in the semester and looking forward to spring break, Colorado State University and our Hillel closed our doors and moved to 100% online, not knowing if and when they would reopen. With this uncertainty came a barrage of questions and concerns.
Questions like: What actually constitutes our CSU Hillel – a House, a meal, a community, what? What is this “Hillel” connection? What does Hillel look like online? How can we serve students’ deeper needs? While we are still searching for a lot of the answers, our CSU Hillel community, our student leaders, our student interns are meeting these and more questions head on.

Over the past several weeks, we have turned into Hillel social media marketing entrepreneurs, navigating the online world with our passions and love of Hillel. We are posting daily on our Facebook and Instagram feeds, sharing resources and setting up virtual programming on a weekly basis. The content is student generated, with CSU student board officers and interns taking turns signing up for Instagram Takeovers, Virtual Shabbats, and reaching out to our friends and family who we know need some extra support.

Since 1923, the mission of Hillel worldwide has been to create Jewish college communities, to be a vital link in the Jewish community’s mission of assuring a Jewish tomorrow. We, at CSU Hillel, are no exception, and are committed to our students, parents, university and each other to continue this legacy, regardless of the physical restrictions.

Thank you for your support and generosity. Please continue to follow us online and to stay in touch. Our students need Hillel now more than ever before – even though CSU Hillel 2020 may look a little more virtual, a little more viral, and a little more physically distant; we are still here, stronger than ever.

Shalom,
Mariah DeGear – CSU Hillel Campus Director
